i guess this is what Jenny Lim was talking about being used in rural areas (pick up as you walk across the road, drop off when you're across). another application?

Though we already have documentation of lights with arrows, I think this horizontal placement in combination with arrows could be helpful when considering how to alert peds to a turning car.
